Rare Lipid Disorder Courses

Why do clinicians need to know about rare lipid disorders?

While the prevalence of each individual disorder is low, collectively they are important and the busy specialized practitioner will encounter patients with these conditions. Lipidologists need to be familiar with their diagnosis and treatment as they may be associated with high morbidity and mortality. EAS run Rare Lipid Disorder Courses to improve recognition and understanding in this. The courses’ objectives are to review practical aspects of evaluation and management, and to describe real clinical cases of these disorders.

The Courses are organised together with national societies in the respective countries, as stand-alone, one-day events. Included in each programme are rare genetic disorders of lipid metabolism including ß-sitosterolemia; cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis, lysosomal acid lipase deficiency, disorders of high density lipoprotein and familial hypocholesterolemias.
