Ulrike Schatz, M.D., is leader of the Lipidology Specialty Department at the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus at the Technical University of Dresden, Germany. She studied at the Universities of Marburg, Tübingen, Germany and Tasmania, Australia. Her doctoral theses was on the free fatty acid induced apoptosis and protein kinase C expression pattern of endothelial and smooth muscle cells of human coronary arteries. Her interest in lipidology and metabolism continued as she completed her training in this field with Professor SR Bornstein in Dresden. Her scientific interest focuses on genetic lipid disorders and diabetes. She is a board member of different cardiovascular/metabolism societies.
