Pia R. Kamstrup (1974), MD PhD, is Head of Department at the Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte, Denmark. She graduated as a medical doctor in 2002 from the University of Copenhagen and has specialized in laboratory medicine – she was certified as a Specialist in Clinical Biochemistry in 2011 by the Danish Board of Health. Clinical training included internal medicine, orthopaedics, general practice, and nephrology.

Dr. Kamstrup earned her PhD in the field of genetic epidemiology in 2008 from the University of Copenhagen. She continues to work with large general population studies, including the Copenhagen General Population Study, exploring the genetic background of cardiovascular disease with a strong focus on lipoprotein(a). She has contributed to international research collaborations, consensus and statement papers on lipoprotein(a), and randomized clinical trials of lipoprotein(a) lowering.
