Alexandros D. Tselepis was born in 1954 in Heraklion Crete, Greece. He has graduated in Pharmacy from the School of Pharmacy, University of Thessaloniki and in Medicine from the Medical School, University of Ioannina, Greece. He obtained his PhD in Clinical Biochemistry in 1986 from the University of Ioannina, Greece. His research studies continued with a Postdoctoral Fellowship (Fogarty, NIH) at the Pathology Department, University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, TX, USA (1988–1989). After initial appointments as Assistant and Associate Professor, he took up his current position of Professor of Biochemistry–Clinical Chemistry in the University of Ioannina, in 2006. Professor Tselepis is also the Director of the Atherothrombosis Research Centre of the University of Ioannina.

Professor Tselepis’ main scientific interests are in the pathophysiology of Atherothrombosis. He has participated in several European Research Networks and he has obtained research grants from National, EU and Private Sources. He has more than 220 publications at international journals and more than 5,300 citations, whereas his current h-index is 39.

Professor Tselepis is Editor of the Hellenic Journal of Atherosclerosis, and member of the Editorial Boards of various international journals including Vascular Disease Prevention, American Journal of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, and Platelets. He is president of the Hellenic Atherosclerosis Society, president of the Institute for the Study and Education on Thrombosis and Antithrombotic Therapy, and a fellow of several national and international scientific societies including European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS), International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), European and Mediterranean League against Thrombotic Diseases (EMLTD).

Professor Tselepis has an over than 15 years experience in the organization of national congresses and international meetings, including the annual international meeting ALPIC (Advance Learning on Platelets and thrombosis International Cource) held under the auspicies of EMLTD and endorsed by the ISTH and the Meetings on Lipid, Lipoproteins and Hypolipidaemic Therapy (jointly organized by EAS, the Turkish Society of Cardiology and the Hellenic Atherosclerosis Society). Currently Prof Tselepis has taken on the organization of an EAS advanced course on FH in Athens.
